Advantages and limitations
Advantages
Rich colour that works as a single statement surface
Dark base hides everyday marks
More affordable than many European green stones
Limitations
Some serpentines warp with water-based adhesives; use an epoxy or rapid-set system
Pattern varies strongly between slabs
Can etch with acids
05
Care and installation
Maintenance and care
Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
Reseal periodically and wipe up acidic spills quickly.
Installation considerations
- 1View and approve the actual slabs or a batch sample before cutting; natural stone varies from block to block.
- 2Agree the vein direction and any book-matching on a layout drawing with the fabricator.
- 3Ask the fixer about a moisture-tolerant adhesive; green serpentines can curl with water-based mortars.
06
Sustainability
A durable stone, but it travels a long way to European projects.
