Advantages & Limitations

Advantages

  • Highly durable and suitable for heavy use
  • Can create large, visually seamless surfaces
  • Available in customised colours and aggregates
  • Can incorporate recycled stone and glass
  • Can be refinished to extend its service life

Limitations

  • Installation requires specialist craftsmanship
  • Cement-based versions may require sealing
  • Movement joints must be carefully planned
  • Some aggregates react to acidic cleaners
  • Repairs may remain slightly visible

06

Maintenance & Care

Clean with a soft cloth or mop and a pH-neutral product suitable for terrazzo and natural stone. Remove spills promptly and avoid acidic, abrasive or strongly alkaline cleaners.

Cementitious terrazzo may require periodic resealing. Use protective pads beneath furniture and follow the installer’s guidance for maintaining polished, honed or specialist finishes.

07

Installation Considerations

  • Approve the matrix colour and aggregate mix before installation.
  • Confirm the substrate is stable, level and properly prepared.
  • Plan movement joints and transitions carefully.
  • Allow sufficient time for curing, grinding and polishing.
  • Use experienced terrazzo installers and finishers.

08

Sustainability

Sustainability Level Moderate–Good

Venetian Terrazzo can incorporate recycled marble, stone or glass and can remain in service for many decades. Reduce its impact by using local aggregates, lower-carbon binders, efficient installation and a finish that can be repaired and refinished.
