Stone · Italy
Fior di Pesco Carnico, a grey marble from Friuli in north-east Italy, crossed by white and plum-coloured veins.
Darker base hides marks better than white marbles
Warm grey and plum tones work with timber and brass
Distinctive for furniture tops and vanities
Strong pattern can overwhelm large floor areas
Etches with acids
Limited quarry output
Wipe spills quickly, especially acids such as lemon, wine, vinegar and many bathroom cleaners, which etch the surface.
Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and reseal periodically; honed surfaces show etching less than polished ones.
A European stone, which shortens transport for projects in Europe.
