Advantages & Limitations
Advantages
- Warm and sophisticated appearance
- Brushed texture reduces visible fingerprints
- Works across contemporary and classic interiors
- Available in many finishes and formats
- Can develop an attractive natural patina
Limitations
- Unlacquered brass changes colour over time
- Acidic products can stain the surface
- Abrasive cleaning can damage the grain
- Finishes may vary between suppliers
- Solid brass can be relatively expensive
06
Maintenance & Care
Clean with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth, always wiping in the direction of the brushed grain. Avoid abrasive pads, metal polishes and aggressive chemicals unless approved for the specified finish.
Unlacquered brass will naturally darken and develop a patina. If the original colour must be retained, specify a suitable protective finish and follow the fabricator’s maintenance instructions.
07
Installation Considerations
- Review an actual finish sample before ordering.
- Coordinate the direction of the brushed grain.
- Use compatible fixings, adhesives and sealants.
- Avoid touching unfinished surfaces during installation.
- Remove protective film only after surrounding work is complete.
08
Sustainability
Brass is durable, repairable and highly recyclable. Its environmental impact can be reduced by choosing products with recycled content, using solid brass only where necessary and designing components so they can be removed, reused or recycled.
