Advantages & Limitations

Advantages

  • Distinctive timber-grain texture
  • Highly durable and long-lasting
  • Suitable for interior and exterior applications
  • Each installation has a unique appearance
  • Creates strong architectural character

Limitations

  • Colour and texture vary naturally
  • Cracks and surface imperfections may occur
  • Porous surfaces require suitable protection
  • Formwork and casting require skilled execution
  • Changes are difficult after installation

06

Maintenance & Care

Remove dust with a soft brush or cloth. Clean using water and a mild, pH-neutral product when required. Avoid abrasive tools and acidic cleaners that could alter the surface.

Interior surfaces exposed to moisture, grease or frequent contact should be protected with a suitable penetrating sealer. Inspect and renew the protective treatment according to the supplier’s guidance.

07

Installation Considerations

  • Approve a formwork and concrete sample before construction.
  • Coordinate board widths, joints and grain direction.
  • Plan tie holes and construction joints carefully.
  • Use consistent concrete mixes to reduce unwanted colour changes.
  • Protect completed surfaces during surrounding construction.

08

Sustainability

Sustainability Level Moderate

Concrete has a significant embodied-carbon impact, but its durability can support a long service life. Reduce its impact by specifying lower-carbon mixes, supplementary cementitious materials, local aggregates and reusable or responsibly sourced timber formwork.
